A Christmas greeting from Noah Hall and three streaming recommendations

Dear network,

It has been a good year. We have had many events, both in person and digital. I have enjoyed meeting many of you and hearing your interests, concerns, and thoughts about our lives as people in technology.

A couple of highlights for me were the sustainability and Flutter hackathons – there's a lot of joy from seeing strangers becoming useful connections, through the medium of joint learning and development. Career continues to be a popular topic, with AI and security being two of the biggest hype sectors right now.

Our events this year related to security showed there's lots of bright people looking into the growing market. Likewise with AI, it has been interesting to see how easy it is now to build AI tools. Both large language models (LLMs) and other AI.

There's also a greater awareness of sustainability. The world around us is under a lot of pressure right now. War, political unrest, environmental ambitions, and societal shifts are all big things that affect us – both in Norway and abroad. But in Norway, our quality of life is high:

  • We have the 9th highest quality of life in the world.
  • We have the highest democracy rating in the world.
  • We have the highest press freedom in the world.
  • We have the 7th highest happiness rating in the world.
  • We have the highest trust in society in the world.

We are extremely privileged to live here. Technology is one of the pillars that enable modern society. We have a big role in shaping society, even when it's not directly obvious.

I hope in 2025 we can go into the year with this mindset: We are Tekna, highly qualified tech people in Norway. We can make things better. We can help each other, both inside and outside of Tekna. We do this through collectively learning and restlessly improving the world we live in.

We will continue to host events. We will continue to comment on political matters. As we help connect people, we help strengthen society – through empowering your careers, through empowering your voices, and by using the collective energy to make things happen.

Noah Hall, Chairman of Tekna’s Network for Developers
