Fundamentals of Battery Technology
Session 1 - Battery course - Tekna Fagråd Agder

In the first of three sessions about battery technology from Tekna Fagråd Agder we will learn about the fundamentals of battery technology from Johannes Landesfeind of the University of Agder and Gunstein Skomedal from Elkem.
We will show visualizations of the basic working principle of batteries with a special focus on lithium-ion batteries.
The session will cover the components lithium-ion batteries are made of, the different shapes they come in and explain why their energy density is higher than e.g., standard AA batteries.
We will take a brief look at the history of battery developement and talk some about safety and the thermal runaway.
Hybrid course
The course will be held at the University of Agder i Kristiansand in Auditorium KRS B 1001, and it will be streamed via the UiA webpage as well. Link to the stream will be distributed to the attendees two days before the course.
Food will be served before the session starts at approx. 17.00 at Lilletunstova in the cafeteria.

About the lecturers
Johannes Landesfeind has experience in electrode level lithium-ion battery research from the Technical University of Munich and the Tokyo University of Science. At his industry position as a battery researcher at Hilti he worked on the development and optimization of next-generation high-power battery cells.
At the University of Agder he combines his experience from academia and industry with his network and expert colleagues from the university and local partners to create and shape strong competencies in battery education, development, and research at the Battery Coast.
Gunstein Skomedal is one of Norways lead researchers on battery technology. He is a post-doctor at the University of Agder and Product manager of battery materials at Vianode.

Back to school
Tekna Fagråd Agder have during recent years given lectures about new topics for Tekna members in collaboration with the Univeristy of Agder and relevant local industry. These lectures have been a great success, especially the digital courses we had during the pandemic. In 2022 we have had one lecture about Esport, and now this series about batteries.
